Sirenia

Suck. I just spend half an hour composing a post about a new band I found, and then my browser blew up when I tried to embed a video.

So this is all you get: Go visit Sirenia’s home page and listen to The Mind Maelstrom. Or go to their MySpace page and listen to Seventh Summer. I love this stuff.

Thanks, Ing, for posting about a band I didn’t really like, which prompted me to look for more.

Oh, wow, I’ve had that happen to me. I hate it when I lose stuff! I always think I’m should compose stuff in word first, but that can crash too. Thanks for the links!

Anytime, Ben…anytime. You want to read a blog post about a band you don’t really like, I’m there for you. :) And thanks, Ben, for posting about a band *I* don’t really like, so I can go look for more. Heh. Kidding.

Actually, I do kind of like them. They’re pretty darn good. They remind me a lot of Nightwish. They’re good, but it’s not quite the kind of listening I’m looking for. Even though their music is great and their singer has a great voice, there’s that thing I wrote about in my post, where before very long I end up wishing more female vocalists would just cut loose and kick the hell out of their lyrics (if you know what I mean).

Yeah, I do know what you mean, Ing. I love these female vocalists from bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Evanescence, etc. But I would really love to hear a female vocalist like Otep matched with a band like Nightwish or Within Temptation. A band with metal, drama, and great lyrics without being disturbing or too far into the hardcore stuff.

After writing this post and listening to Sirenia for a while, I started to feel a little let down. They didn’t have quite the mix I had initially hoped. The two songs I mentioned above are my favorites so far, and the rest feels a little tame despite their occasional death metal growls. They’re very similar to Nightwish, but lacking their creativity and drama.
