Word Count Journal
This is a log of my daily attempts to write at least a hundred words on a novel or short story before the day ends. The idea is that no matter how busy you are, how inspired you feel, or how terrible you think your writing is, you can still write at least 100 words a day. No matter how bad you think it is, at least you’re writing!
12 September 2008. I wrote a description of how one becomes a berserker. [185 words]

7 September 2008. I am really and truly hopeless as a “pantser” or “discovery writer,” as they’re called. I really have to plan everything out in advance. So these words are more outlining on chapter 1. [119 words]
6 September 2008. No excuses. [0 words]
5 September 2008. No excuses. [0 words]
4 September 2008. No excuses. I could say I was too tired, but that would just mean I spent the energy I had on other things. [0 words]
3 September 2008. Made a few quick decisions about chapter one, which led me on a whole tangent to rework some other areas of the outline. I had a brilliant idea, and I think the story will be much stronger because of it. [161 words]
2 September 2008. I thought I was ready to start the first chapter, but I ran into some things I hadn’t thought through well enough yet. I’m a slow thinker, and I can’t just make up stuff on the spot. It always turns out wrong if I do. So it took some careful writing to get it all out in a form I can remember and implement once I’m ready to start. [180 words]
1 September 2008. We’re currently preparing to move at the end of the month, and I desperately needed to get a head start. There will be more days like this to come. [0 words]
